FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is an international competition organized by *FIRST* for elementary and middle school students (ages 9–14 in the United States and Canada, 9–16 elsewhere). Each year in August, FIRST LEGO League introduces a scientific and real-world challenge for teams to focus on and research. The robotics part of the competition involves designing and programming LEGO Mindstorms robots to complete tasks. The students work out a solution to a problem related to the theme (which changes every year) and then meet for regional, national, and international tournaments to compete, share their knowledge, compare ideas, and display their robots.
Age: Grades 4-9 Team Size: Up to 10 young minds + coach

VEX Robotics Competition
The VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, is the largest and fastest-growing robotics program for middle school and high school students worldwide. It encompasses over 20,000 teams from 50 countries, engaging in more than 1,700 competitions across the globe. Each year, a challenging engineering task is introduced in the form of a game. With the guidance of teachers and mentors, students construct innovative robots and compete throughout the year. In addition to acquiring valuable engineering skills, students develop essential life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, communication, collaboration, project management, and critical thinking. The VEX Robotics Competition equips students to become future innovators, with 95% of participants reporting an increased interest in STEM subjects and pursuing STEM-related careers.
The VEX IQ Challenge, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, offers elementary and middle school students engaging robotics and research project challenges. These challenges enhance their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills through hands-on, student-centered learning. The VEX IQ Challenge also promotes the development of teamwork, critical thinking, project management, and communication skills in students. These skills prepare them to become the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.
