Summer Bootcamp Daily Schedule

CAD Fundamentals & Designing
Students will be introduced to the basics of CAD design, learning the fundamental tools to create simple robot subsystems. They will start by designing the robot's chassis and claw mechanism, focusing on assemblies and how to manipulate them in the digital environment. By the end of the day, students will have a simple, fully designed model ready to use as a blueprint for physical construction.
Build Fundamentals & Constructing
The second day will focus on taking the CAD designs from Day 1 and translating them into physical builds using Vex parts. Students will learn how to assemble the Clawbot’s chassis, mount motors, engage gears and attach the claw to an integrated build. Emphasis will be placed on building techniques that ensure a sturdy and reliable robot, along with troubleshooting tips for common assembly issues.
Programming Fundamentals & Autonomous Coding
On Day 3, students will dive into programming, learning the basics of C++ and Vex libraries. They will focus on programming simple autonomous routines for their robots, such as moving forward, turning, and opening/closing the claw. Students will also learn how to use various sensors to aid in developing repeatable tasks, with an understanding on their inner workings. The goal is to understand how to control the robot using code, with hands-on experience writing and debugging basic programs.
Challenge-Based Tasks
Day 4 will focus on applying the skills students have learned so far through a challenge-based task. Students will work in teams to complete a task, such as navigating a maze or placing an object into a designated area, using only their bot and the code they’ve written. The challenge will push students to think critically about how to integrate their designs, builds, and programming into a working solution.
Iterative Design & Engineering Design Process
On the final day, students will revisit their robots to identify areas for improvement.  Students will also have to debug a novel mechanical issue introduced to the robot, such as a new objective, constraint or requirement. They will learn about the iterative design process and apply it by making modifications to their Clawbot, whether it’s tweaking the build or refining the code. The day will culminate in a final challenge where teams will showcase their robots, demonstrate improvements, and discuss the design decisions they made throughout the week.
What is the Next: Your Path to next level.
After completing our intensive 5-day boot camp, students emerge with both technical expertise and essential soft skills. They master teamwork and communication in competitive environments, develop strategic problem-solving abilities, gain competition-ready technical skills, and build valuable project management experience. Students are then invited to advance to another 5-day training program. Top performers can join our elite competition training program, which prepares them for official VEX tournaments and builds a strong foundation for future success in robotics and STEM fields.

What You’ll Explore This Spring!

Our VEX V5 Advance Training Program offers an intensive 5-day robotics training experience for students aged 11-14 who are passionate about robotics. Starting with CAD fundamentals and design on Day 1, students progress through build construction (Day 2), programming basics (Day 3), challenge-based tasks (Day 4), and culminate with iterative design processes (Day 5). Led by Mr. Q (Tony), a distinguished robotics educator with over 10 years of VEX experience, participants will master the complete robotics development cycle – from digital design to physical construction and programming. Working in small teams of 2-3 students in our state-of-the-art facilities, this hands-on program develops crucial skills in robot design, C++ programming, and competition strategies. Outstanding students may be invited to join our competition teams for official VEX tournaments.
