Summer Bootcamp Daily Schedule

Advanced CAD (Custom Components)
Students will explore advanced CAD concepts, learning to design custom components for their robots using polycarbonate materials and modifying vex materials. This includes creating specialized parts like slip gears, 4-bar lifting mechanisms, or custom structural pieces that will enhance the performance of their robot. The day will be focused on design techniques that allow students to optimize their robot’s efficiency and functionality to any given game problem. Teams will also be introduced to the engineering notebook, which will be used to document their progress throughout the week.
Advanced Build (Robustness & Reliability)
On Day 2, students will learn about building robots that are not only functional but also durable. They will focus on ensuring that their designs are reliable and can withstand the stresses of competition such as cyclic wear and impact. Additionally, students will learn about the principles of modular design for practicality in the competition environment. The day will include advanced building techniques like reinforcing joints and optimizing robot structure for better stability, durability, and ease of repair.
Advanced Programming (PID & Odometry)
Students will dive into advanced programming concepts, learning how to implement PID controllers for precise movement and odometry for accurate robot positioning. They will work on programming routines that allow their robots to navigate autonomously with improved accuracy throughout the 12ft x 12ft field, using sensors to track position and adjust movement based on real-time feedback. Students will also be introduced to macros, which will allow for the repeated execution of sequential tasks at the push of one button.
Challenge-Based Tasks
Day 4 will focus on integrating the advanced CAD, building, and programming techniques learned earlier in the week. Students will apply their knowledge to a challenging task, such as autonomously navigating an obstacle course or manipulating multiple objects within a set time limit. The challenge will test their ability to design, build, and program complex systems, and adapt their strategies to solve an evolving problem.
Iterative Design & Engineering Design Process
On the final day of the camp, students will have the opportunity to revisit and refine their robots, focusing on improving efficiency and solving any issues they encountered during the challenge. They will apply the iterative design process by testing their robots, gathering feedback, and making adjustments within a stream of continuous improvement. The day will end with a final competition, where students will compete using their refined robots and demonstrate the improvements they’ve made throughout the week, and an in-depth critique on the engineering notebook they've developed.
Your Path Forward: Building Competition Excellence
Upon completing our intensive 5-day program, exceptional students who demonstrate outstanding technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork will be invited to join our Elite Competition Track. This advanced program offers comprehensive VEX competition training with experienced mentors, participation in official tournaments, and specialized instruction in advanced programming and building techniques. Selected students will represent TechBlazers in regional and national VEX tournaments, providing them with a direct pathway to competitive robotics excellence and future success in STEM fields.
