What is CJMC?
The Canadian Junior Mathematics Contest (CJMC) is a national mathematics competition organized by the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. It is designed for younger students and emphasizes:
- Logical reasoning
- Mathematical modeling and applications
- Multi-step problem analysis and expression
- Deep understanding of mathematical concepts, rather than rote practice
CJMC is not a “pattern-based” contest. Instead, it encourages students to truly understand mathematics and learn how to think. Winning a Gold Award in this competition indicates a student has exceptional mathematical literacy.
