A Day of Growth Through Practice and Play
In a celebration of collaboration and learning, TechBlazers Robotics Center recently hosted a VEX IQ Training & Friendship Scrimmage, welcoming four motivated teams to our Richmond Hill facility for a day packed with hands-on learning, strategy development, and supportive peer engagement.
This wasn’t about trophies—it was about progress. Teams took the opportunity to simulate real competition conditions in a low-pressure environment. They tested autonomous programs, refined build designs, and explored new game strategies together.
From sharing tools to sharing tips, every interaction encouraged teamwork and innovation. The result? A day of technical growth, problem-solving, and mutual encouragement.
Lessons Beyond the Arena
While the matches were friendly, the learning was real:
- Adapting quickly to live match conditions
- Strengthening team communication under pressure
- Iterating robot design with real-time feedback
- Offering support to peers and learning from one another
This is what makes scrimmages so valuable: authentic, experience-driven learning where students are both teachers and learners.
Why VEX IQ Matters
The VEX IQ platform builds more than robots. It cultivates core 21st-century skills that prepare students for real-world challenges:
- Critical Thinking & Problem Solving: Students troubleshoot mechanical issues, optimize code, and rework strategies on the fly.
- Communication & Collaboration: Every great robot is powered by great teamwork.
- Leadership & Ownership: Whether coding, driving, or documenting, students take initiative and work as a unit.
- University & Career Readiness: Participation in robotics lays a strong foundation for high school, university, and future careers in STEM.
Community and Connection
Events like this reflect TechBlazers’ belief in community-driven learning. We aim to create a welcoming space where students grow together, not just as competitors but as collaborators.
We’re proud to play a role in developing Ontario’s next generation of STEM leaders—and we look forward to hosting more scrimmages, workshops, and outreach events in the near future.
